a toast to delicious jamz

So there’s this annual festival in New York you may’ve heard of, where like a hundred of the world’s greatest DJs magically dip in for a three-day party on Randall’s Isle, Manhattan– it’s Electric Zoo, it begins in less than 24 hours, and–lucky for you–more tickets have been released!

Yea… you read those prices right.  But then take a look at those lineups!  You won’t find a hotter show on the eastern seaboard.  For me, it was the epic Sunday lineup that I ended up buying a ticket for, coincidentally the first day that started selling out tickets.  A few thousand of my best friends and I are about to get the aural pleasuring of a lifetime from the likes of Diplo, Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Calvin Harris, and just a few other nonmortals who’ve agreed to come grace our ears.

The massive dance party’ll start later that afternoon, but first I wanna mention two acts that precede the crazy: Gramatik and MiM0SA, performing starting at 11:30am back-to-back at the “Hilltop Arena,” where you’re likely to find me planted the majority of the day.  These guys both bring back an older world through funky mixes produced so silkily smooth they’d slip right through your fingers. To help you start to feel the beat…

Led Zeppelin – Stairway To Hip-Hop Heaven (Gramatik Remix)
(Someone dareth touch Led Zepp?!)

Nina Simone – I Put A Spell On You (MiM0SA mix)

Another personal fave during my scuba adventures is Jack Beats, booked right in between the sets of Fake Blood and Diplo (two other mighty fine DJs).  Be sure to check out his jungle-infused set to really make it feel like a zoo…

Jack Beats – Revolution <–whoa

Florence and the Machine – Drumming Song (Jack Beats Remix)

Hope to see you there !

Props to my friend G$ for introducing me to this crazy character. David Berrie (aka dBerrie) takes some pretty heavy songs, like Rolling in the Deep or the one to follow, and successfully raises them to a heightened, celebratory state using repeated and exaggerated choruses and constant, rolling beats. Man am I excited for his show at Pacha next weekend in New York — and it’s free for those on the guest list…

Florence + The Machine – Cosmic Love (dBerrie Remix)
